Czech, Slovak and Polish Structuralist Traditions in the Translation Studies Paradigm Today

The 11th Prague International Conference in Translation and Interpreting Studies

Held at: The Institute of Translation Studies, Prague, on September 26–27, 2013

Organized by:

The Institute of Translation Studies
Faculty of Arts
Charles University in Prague

In cooperation with:

The Department of English and American Studies
Philosophical Faculty
Palacký University Olomouc

and

The European Commission Representation
in the Czech Republic

The conference will discuss theoretical and methodological issues of Czech, Slovak and Polish structuralisms, confronting them with the current state-of-the-art in mainstream translation studies, and vice versa. Western paradigmatic turns in TS do not make a perfect fit here, since the traditions have been rather different. East European structuralisms seem to have been by-passed for various reasons, while recent international theoretical and methodological quests, more or less following the pattern of so called turns in humanities, have been arriving at issues reminiscent of those constituting East European traditional backgrounds. On the other hand, our object of study may have become more elusive. The conference is an invitation to international dialogue.
