Translation and Interpreting is a rapidly growing area in the School of Modern Languages with a strong research profile and distinctive teaching provision. Current full-time staff have research interests in literary translation, translation for performance, translation ethics, translation and linguistics, translation of sacred texts, and commercial interpreting. It is expected that the successful candidate will make a significant contribution to the research profile of the subject area in particular and to the research culture of the School of Modern Languages in general. He or she will be responsible for teaching and examining on both the MA in Translation and the MA in Interpreting in his or her areas of research and teaching interests, and will also play a full part in the administrative activities of both Translation and Interpreting, and of the School of Modern Languages. The successful candidate will have a demonstrable interest in the recruitment of international students. Applicants must have a primary degree, with a PhD at or near completion in a relevant discipline. The successful candidate will display evidence of a high quality publication record (commensurate with stage of career) and evidence of the potential to sustain and improve research performance. He/she must have relevant teaching experience at tertiary level and demonstrable native or near-native fluency in a language other than English. All applicants should be thoroughly competent in English. Preference may be given to those applicants whose teaching interests are complementary to those of staff already in post. The School wishes to appoint a Senior Lecturer to contribute to the School's undergraduate and postgraduate teaching portfolio in the field of Translation Studies. Applicants will be a native or near native speaker of English, able to translate from Chinese, German, or Spanish into English. They will be expected to have the ability to contribute to language teaching in their other main language. Applicants will be expected to have proven experience of teaching Translation Theory & Practice, Specialised Translation, Research Methods and dissertation supervision. Areas of specialism that are particularly welcome are sub-titling, translation technologies or corpus linguistics.The successful candidate will be expected to take on the Course Leadership of BA (Hons) Applied Languages within the full-time undergraduate provision, contribute to campus and distance learning programmes at postgraduate level, and undertake high quality research / knowledge transfer. The Monterey Institute of International Studies, a graduate school of Middlebury College, located in Monterey, California is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor of Spanish to English Translation. The position is a regular, full-time position, teaching approximately 10 contact hours per week in an MA Translation, Interpretation, and Localization Management program. The position begins Fall 2013. This position focuses on training students to translate into English and the candidate would be expected to teach introduction, intermediate and advanced classes to students who may have English as either an A or B language. In a privileged location on the U.S.-Mexico border, next to the Gulf of Mexico, and within a bicultural, bilingual campus community, UTB-TSC has been offering Translation and Interpreting courses for more than three decades. UTB-TSC currently offers an Associate of Arts program in Spanish Translation, a Bachelor of Arts Major in Spanish Translation and Interpreting, a Minor in French Language and Translation, and an undergraduate Certificate in Medical Interpreting. At the graduate level, UTB offers a Certificate in Translation Studies as well as a full-fledged Master of Arts program in Spanish Translation and Interpreting.
