Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Spanish

The Department of Latin American and Iberian Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Spanish to start September 1, 2013. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to implement, with other faculty, undergraduate curricular tracks in “Translation Studies” and “Language, Culture and Society,” and must be prepared to teach courses such as: Language Arts: How Spanish Works; Problems of Syntax in Spanish and English; Translation and Interpretation; Varieties of Spanish in the Americas; Language and Power in Latin America; History of the Spanish Language; and courses in UMass Boston’s General Education program.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD required in Translation/Interpretation or Spanish with an MA in Translation and/or Interpretation or equivalent. PhD must be awarded by no later than August 2013
  • Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to scholarship and to teaching excellence in an urban public university
  • Familiarity with theoretical concepts as well as practice-based translation skills would be valued
  • Interest and experience in new technologies would also be a plus
  • Native or near native fluency in Spanish and English required
