Assistant Professor in Translation Technologies

The faculty member will be responsible for delivering various components of the academic program in Translation Technologies within the broad development of the Translation & Interpreting Institute (TII), and ensuring that both MA and PhD students receive appropriate training in their chosen specialization.Responsibilities: Teach a range of core and optional modules on various areas of translation technologies. Provide regular feedback on non-assessed tasks and set and mark assessment tasks. Supervise and mark MA student dissertations and projects in addition to supervising or co-supervising PhD students. Keep abreast of and adopt current teaching methodologies, and the latest translation technologies to ensure students are taught in a way they would fit to work in professional settings. Participate in activities designed to promote the MA program and the Institute. Director of Postgraduate Studies & Research (TII-HBKU)

This is an administrative position led by a senior faculty member and falls into Faculty contracts. The Director of the Graduate Studies sets the strategic plan and budget for the Graduate Studies and monitors and manages the full range of MAs and doctoral degrees offered by the Institute, ensuring alignment to all approved objectives and targets in order to achieve high performance in terms of growth, efficiency, effectiveness and achievement of the Institute’s vision and mission. The Director who is also an Associate Professor will be relieved of his or her teaching load, but will still be responsible of delivering some components of the academic program and ensuring that both MA and PhD students receive appropriate training in their chosen specialism. CLAS is a leading centre for the study of European, Asian and American languages, cultures, film and media with campuses in Nottingham, China and Malaysia. CLAS is a large and highly successful school catering for a diverse, friendly and stimulating community of undergraduates and postgraduates. Based in the Language Centre, the purpose of this role is to offer teaching in translation from Spanish to English and related areas of language study; to offer postgraduate supervision in a specialist area; to conduct research in an appropriate specialist area; and to perform administrative tasks as directed by the Director of the Language Centre, the Director of CTCCS and the Head of Department of Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American Studies. Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent in Hispanic Studies or Translation Studies or a related discipline. They should also have publications appropriate to an early career researcher; proven expertise in translation from Spanish into English; expertise in translation studies and translation theory; or expertise in language studies or linguistics or interpreting. Registrar for Postgraduate Studies

Reports to: Director of Postgraduate Studies and Research Closing date: Open until filled   Job Description/Summary:   The Registrar will provide quality student service in the area of registration, tuition assessment and academic records, and ensure the confidentiality and accuracy of student records. He or she will also demonstrate TII’s commitment to thoughtful treatment of its students, through timeliness and accuracy of the transcription system, and insure good order and an atmosphere conducive to academic activity by producing timely and accurate statistics, grades, certifications and other reports.   Responsibilities:   Conduct preregistration, completion, Registration and Drop/Add. Coordinate the Student Database with the Admissions and Student Services Officer, as well as new student technology initiatives. Record internships, study abroad work, thesis titles, comprehensive examination results and grade changes. Charge (and credit) tuition and associated fees. Assign operator security profiles to Student Records users and monitor the system to prevent unauthorized access to computer records. Produce transcripts, and store & preserve academic records and inactive student folders. Process grades and produce transcripts for non-credit students (while also retaining copies of course descriptions. Prepare, publish, distribute class, and examination schedules. Assign classrooms: all semesters, while also reserving classrooms for special meetings, etc; and monitoring classroom conditions. Plan and direct classroom improvement projects, and administer the Teacher Evaluation System. Plan and coordinate the Schedule of Classes to insure that all curricular needs are met while responding to the preferences of faculty and students.        Knowledge, Expertise & Skills:   Three to five years of experience in the education sector as a Registrar. Experience of registration and admissions at university level. Knowledge of the registration processes, methods, policies, and procedures. Fluency in written and spoken Arabic Proficiency in Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with staff and students Attention to detail. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Faculty Position - Program Coordinator of the Master in Conference Interpreting

Reports to: Director of Postgraduate Studies and Research Closing date: Open until filled   Job Description/Summary:   This is a faculty position that is held by an Assistant Professor of Audiovisual Translation. The Senior Coordinator of the MAAT program is responsible for coordinating all activities relating to the MA and delivers some of its components. He or she is responsible for the selection and testing of potential students and is required to provide guidance and support to students.   As an Assistant Professor, he or she will be responsible of delivering some components of the academic program and ensuring that the MA students receive appropriate training in their chosen specialization.        Responsibilities:   Support the MAAT program in preparing the business plan and annual budget for the Academic Program by providing information specific to the MA, in line with the Institute’s guidelines and the overall objectives of the Institute and Qatar Foundation. Provide support in developing the curriculum for the MA and advice and recommendations on the course offerings. Set the course sequencing and scheduling, ensuring that it meets all the standards and guidelines of the Academic Program. Prepare entry exams for potential students, ensuring that the results generated provide the required indication of whether the potential student meets the requirements of entry into the program. Participate in the selection and testing of potential students, ensuring that they meet the requirements for admission. Prepare and regularly update teaching materials for the respective courses to ensure the course outline is up-to-date and reflects the learning objectives of the syllabus. Teach courses to students in order to prepare them for their examinations. Provide reports on teaching activities, teaching methodologies and course developments to the Director of Post Graduate Studies & Research for review and decision making. Recommend and suggest the purchase of translation technologies/equipment to enhance the teaching experience of all students, ensuring that they are using the best and most appropriate technologies. Participate in the hiring and evaluation of faculty and staff, ensuring fairness and equality and that the Academic Program acquires the required skills. Oversee student projects as assigned to them with the coordination of the Professional Services Department; provide guidance, timetable for training, timelines, and supervise the sharing of responsibilities among faculty and translators. Recommend public seminars and workshops, ensuring that they are in line with the objectives and guidelines of the Institute. Attend and represent the Institute in local, regional and international conferences as well as with similar institutions and develop and maintain strong relationships for future collaboration with the Institute.
