Lectureships in modern languages and translation, University of Portsmouth

A Lecturer in French and Spanish with Translation is required to play a key role in the development of these subject areas. Description The University of Bristol seeks to appoint a Language Director in Translation to work in the School of Modern Languages from 1 August 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. The principal responsibilities of this post are for the management, delivery and continuing expansion of the School of Modern Languages' MA in Translation. This is a highly successful, professionally oriented postgraduate qualification delivered by distance learning, to which you will contribute teaching in Translation Theory, Translation Technology and/or the Translation Industry. You may also contribute MA and/or undergraduate teaching in a specific language, and will play a key role in the development and delivery of School-wide policy both for undergraduate teaching of translation and, as appropriate, for the enhancement of postgraduate provision in translation and translation studies. You are likely to have substantial experience of leadership and management of language programmes in the HE Sector, with specific experience in supporting distance learning. You have native or near native competence and considerable teaching experience in a relevant language. Extensive familiarity with recent developments in translation theory and translation technologies is essential; first-hand experience of the translation industry and/or publication in the field may be an advantage. The post holder will be responsible to the Head of the School of Modern Languages and work closely with the Professor of Translation Studies. Chair in Corpus Linguistics for 'Language at Leeds', University of Leeds

This new appointment, located in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures, will lead and develop the new Faculty-based strategic Language@Leeds initiative (see below) with the aim of building on substantial existing successes and making Leeds an international leader in language-related research, scholarship and teaching. The structures of this initiative will bring together and enhance language studies in the School (the largest of its kind in the country), in the Faculty (notably English Language) and in the wider University (including Computing). Within the School, this will particularly involve staff in Translation Studies, Linguistics and Phonetics and the Language Centre. The role will require excellent leadership and team skills and the ability to encourage and develop interdisciplinary links between the various areas represented in Language@Leeds.The successful candidate will have an outstanding research record with a specialism within the broad of corpus linguistics, already of significant importance within the School. This should include an excellent track record in the construction and analysis of large corpora, experience with multilingual corpora and expertise in quantitative methods, including statistics.
