Tenure-Track Professorship for the field of Translation-oriented Terminology Science and Translation Technologies

At the Centre for Translation Studies of the University of Vienna the position of a Tenure-Track Professorship for the field of Translation-oriented Terminology Science and Translation Technologies (full-time position) is to be filled. Digitization and globalization have a transformative impact on international language industry, where multilingual terminology management in combination with the use of a broad range of translation technologies are of fundamental importance. Terminology science and research in language technologies deal in an interdisciplinary way with socio-cultural, cognitive, economic and technological dimensions. This tenure-track professorship strengthens research and teaching activities in this integrated and dynamic field. Successful candidates should have the following qualifications: Doctoral degree/PhD and at least two years post-doctoral experience at a university or other research institutionOutstanding achievements and potential in research, excellent publication record, international reputationExperience in designing and participating in research projects, as well as the willingness and ability to lead research groups, willingness to acquire third-party fundingEnthusiasm for excellent teaching, teaching experience at universities or a teaching concept as well as the ability and willingness to teach students in all phases of their studies (bachelor's, master's, or doctoral level), to supervise academic theses and to promoting young academic colleagues The University of Vienna expects the successful candidate to acquire, within three years, proficiency in German sufficient for teaching in bachelor's programmes and for participation in university committees. In addition, the University of Vienna expects the successful candidate to be prepared to take over responsibility on the organisational level of the Centre and the University, if necessary. Within two years' time, the University will offer a qualification agreement if the academic performance suggests that the required high qualification can be reached. If the qualification is achieved according to the agreement, employment, which originally has a six-year duration, will be continued for an indefinite period as an "Associate Professor". Via a further competitive procedure as stipulated in the University's Statutes, associate professors can be directly promoted to full professor. If the qualification goals are not achieved, the employment will end upon expiry of the contract term. Instructor/Lecturer in Spanish Translation, Reading, and Communication

Harvard Divinity School seeks to appoint an adjunct instructor/lecturer to teach two courses in Spanish; Advanced Intermediate Spanish for Reading and Translation in Theological and Religious Studies in the fall semester (3rd semester translation) and Spanish Communication Skills for Ministry Studies in the spring semester (2 courses total). The appointment title will depend on the finalist’s qualifications. Also, the instructor/lecturer may be asked to take on administering the Spanish language qualifying exams three times a year (September/January/April) for additional pay; and/or the instructor/lecturer may be invited to teach the Spanish translation course as part of the Summer Language Program from mid-June to early August each year (for additional pay). All these arrangements are subject to availability and negotiation. Class meetings during the academic year are preferably on one or two evenings per week during the semester time. The courses are normally attended by masters and doctoral students of Harvard Divinity School’s masters programs as well as the doctoral Program in Religion. There may also be students from the various member schools of the Boston Theological Institute attending the courses. The courses must be open and accessible to the Divinity School’s diverse and multi-religious student body. The contents of the courses should reflect the diversity and variety of religious studies and theology. The courses are basically reading and translation practice in selected texts in Spanish related to theological and religious studies. Review of Spanish grammar and syntax as they related to the translations at hand are required, as well as some cultural and language background studies for the students are expected. For the course in Communication skills at the advanced intermediate level, a native/near-native command of the target language is expected. Applicants should demonstrate the following qualifications: (1) completed advanced degree (PhD or ABD candidates preferred), (2) prior experience teaching at the graduate level, and (3) sensibility to a multi-religious, diverse student body. Teaching Associate in Spanish and Translation Studies

The role holder will be responsible for teaching, supervising, marking and carrying out associated administrative duties on relevant undergraduate and taught programmes in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, predominantly in the area of Spanish and Translation studies. Applicants should hold a PhD (or near completion by the time the post begins), or equivalent qualification, in a relevant field and be a native or near-native speaker of Spanish. Lecturer in Italian Studies

Applications are invited for this fixed-term full time post in the School of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics. Duties will include teaching Italian language and culture at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and the provision of pastoral and administrative support within the Italian Section and Department of Modern Languages & Cultures. Where relevant (depending on contract type) successful candidates will be expected to conduct and publish research of an international standard in their field of study. Candidates should have first language or near-first language competence in spoken and written Italian (they should also be thoroughly competent in English). Candidates should possess a postgraduate degree in a relevant subject area and also have completed, or be in the final stages of completing, a doctorate in any area of Italian Studies and should have previous experience of teaching the Italian language and modules on the culture of Italian-speaking countries. Preference may be given to candidates with expertise in Translation Studies. The Department is looking to appoint candidates to either Teaching and Research or Teaching and Scholarship contracts. Lecturer in Spanish English Translation and Interpreting

The Spanish and Portuguese Department at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track one-year, non-renewable position as a Lecturer in Spanish < > English Translation and Interpreting, effective Fall 2018. We seek a dynamic instructor to teach introductory and advanced courses in translation and interpreting depending on the candidate’s expertise. Teaching load is 3:3. Ability to teach courses in interpreting (community, court or medical), as well experience in teaching translation and interpreting online is a plus. Possibility of additional teaching in the Rutgers Summer online translation program (for additional salary). Candidates will be required to supervise translation and interpreting internships and practicums. The appointed Lecturer is expected to participate in the life of the program and advise students. Part-time Lecturer in Translation (with Interpreting)

MAJOR DUTIES: Teaching: 1. Design and deliver a range of teaching and assessment activities at undergraduate and post graduate level in translation and/or interpreting within an established programme (including MA in Translation and MA in Interpreting) including lectures, setting/marking coursework and practical. 2. Deliver language specific workshops. 3. Select appropriate assessment instruments and criteria, assess the work and progress of students by reference to the criteria and provide constructive feedback to students. 4. Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback. 5. Supervise practical work where it is part of the course, and advise students on techniques. 6. Plan and develop independent teaching contributions and contribute to the design or revision of course units. 7. Help to develop appropriate teaching approaches and contribute to curriculum development. Research: 1. Engage in scholarly activity e.g. participate in conferences, external funding applied for, book reviews and teaching/professional materials published. 2. Develop networking links with relevant professional bodies to ensure that own teaching reflects current best practice in own area of subject specialism. 3. Maintain and develop teaching and subject expertise. Administration/Contribution to the Community: 1. Contribute to the School’s outreach strategy. 2. Provide pastoral care for students within own area to ensure, as far as practicable, that relevant issues are dealt with in a timely, sympathetic and effective manner. 3. Carry out designated routine School administrative duties, including, for example, committee work, course administration,recruitment activities etc. 4. Be responsible for the record–keeping associated with teaching and the preparation of teaching materials. Planning and Organising: 1. Plan and manage own teaching and tutorials as agreed with Head of School/mentor. 2. Modules are designed/updated in line with School’s teaching strategy. Resource Management Responsibilities: 1. Use teaching resources, laboratories and workshops as required. 2. Act as mentor for students. Internal and External Relationships: 1. Membership of the School Board and Examination Board and such committees relevant to their administrative duties. 2. Collaborate with other staff within School. 3. Involved in developing links or joining external networks to share information and ideas. 4. Contribute to the School’s outreach programme by establishing links with local community groups, industries, etc. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: 1. Have or be about to obtain a PhD in an area linked to translation. 2. A relevant primary degree. 3. Working towards PGCHET and/or membership of an appropriate professional and/or teaching body e.g. HEA. 4. Evidence of teaching experience at tertiary level. 5. Ability to design course materials and to plan and organise the delivery and assessment of taught courses in Translation and/or Interpreting. 6. Native or near native fluency in English and one other language 7. Effective interpersonal skills to liaise with students and colleagues. 8. High level of analytical capability. 9. Ability to communicate complex information clearly. 10. Ability to encourage commitment to learn in others. 11. Ability to assess and organise resources. 12. Ability to contribute to broader management and administrative processes. DESIRABLE CRITERIA: 1. Experience of teaching Interpreting at tertiary level. 2. Proven ability to teach audio-visual translation 3. Evidence of work experience as a translator and/or interpreter at a professional level. Teaching Associate in German and Translation (part time/fixed term)

The School is a leading centre for the study of Culture, Film and Media, Modern Languages and American and Canadian studies. We offer first degrees (BA) and both taught and research postgraduate degrees (MA, MRes, MSc and PhD) and deliver internationally recognised research across our departments. We also work closely with The University of Nottingham's campuses in China and Malaysia. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with excellent oral and written communication skills in both German and English to join the Modern Languages and Cultures team. The role holder will be involved in curriculum development and play a leading role in German section taking responsibility for covening and teaching core undergraduate modules in German language and content, including associated assessment duties as well as supervising undergraduate dissertations in areas appropriate to their expertise and qualification, including translation. Candidates must hold a qualification in Teaching German as a Foreign Language or be able to demonstrate the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience. Lecturer in Interpreting (With Spanish)
