Professor in Translation Studies

Duties and Responsibilities The Centre for Translation Studies (CenTras) forms part of the Centre for Multidisciplinary and Intercultural Inquiry (CMII). Both Centres are also administrative units of UCL's School of European Languages, Culture and Society (SELCS) and are all part of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, one of eleven Faculties at UCL. The Director will provide strong academic, intellectual and strategic leadership to CenTras. They will bring world-leading expertise in translation studies to enhance the work of the Centre in all areas - research, teaching, knowledge transfer and administration. Key Requirements The successful applicant will be recognised as a leading authority in the field of translation studies and be fluent in written and spoken English and at least one other language. They will have an outstanding record of original research and peer-reviewed publication, including a strong submission for REF2021. In addition to providing intellectual leadership they will also have a proven capacity to attract external funding for research, and the capacity to develop exciting future research projects. They will have a proven track record of academic leadership, extensive experience of postgraduate teaching and research supervision, and experience of academic administration. They will demonstrate a willingness and ability to assume senior administrative roles and undertake knowledge transfer work. Assistant Professor of Transcultural Studies (first 3 years at 75%, then 3 years at 100%, no tenure-track)

The appointee will have wide-ranging expertise – in both teaching and research – in transculturalism, understood as a process of negotiation taking place in dynamic contacts and networks between and across cultures. She or he will have a thorough command of methodology in cultural theory and in social sciences and, in addition to investigating the cultural backgrounds of globalised economic, political and social action, will also have research interests in migration and diaspora studies. Candidates are expected to be able to build bridges from cultural studies to the core disciplines of the University (i.e. Business Administration, Economics, Law and Political Sciences). The languages of instruction are German and English; the University's language of administration is German. Senior Editor - Hayden Ferry Review

Job Description Serves as the Manager of printed publication, web content, and special projects for Hayden's Ferry Review, the graduate student-led literary journal at Arizona State University. Supports student editors in setting and managing editorial schedule and assignments to ensure publication of timely, relevant, and engaging materials consistent with established objectives. Coordinates editorial team in managing submission and publishing processes, fundraising, and outreach. May teach one class per year on topics related to editing and publishing for literary journals and/or small presses, to provide additional professional training for students working on journals and other creative writing publications at Arizona State University. With guidance from the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing, develops and directs a special translation project: an innovative, ever-growing online archive of creative work previously published in Hayden's Ferry Review and in translation across many languages. Guides project growth with the mission of fostering and engaging an international, multi-lingual, and multicultural community of readers and writers. Builds and manages a network of translators and interns assisting with and contributing to this special project. Communicates and promotes translation project to stakeholders and the public. Full or Associate Professor in the English Unit of the Department of Translation

Lecturer/Associate Professor Positions in Media Translation and Computer-assisted Translation

The Department of English is a research-led department that trains graduates for careers as English-language professionals in the fields of translation, media and communication, finance and international business, and language education. Since its inception in 2008, the Department has established four undergraduate programmes of study with a concentration on applied English studies, English literature as well as translation studies. The Department also has vibrant postgraduate programmes of MA TESOL and MA Mass Media Translation. In addition to Masters programmes, the Department operates a successful research-based doctoral programme, through which the faculty supervise PhD student in their specialist areas. With a faculty of 17 members and a student body of over 300, studying the BA and MA programmes, the Department of English is one of the more established academic units in Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. The University is a unique collaborative institution, the first and currently the only university in China to offer both UK (University of Liverpool) and Chinese (Ministry of Education) accredited undergraduate degrees. The University now has over 10,000 students, spreading across two adjoining campuses. The medium of instruction is English. The University aims to be research-led, and has committed significant investment into research development and the expansion of PhD student numbers on campus. Assistant Teaching Professor, Interpreting and Translation Studies - Arabic

Starting August 2018. Two-year appointment with possibility of renewal. Ph.D. in Interpreting and Translation Studies, Applied Linguistics or other relevant field. Professional experience as an interpreter required. The faculty member will teach six courses per year at the graduate level, including supervising internships and students’ research projects, and contribute to the curriculum development in our Interpreting and Translation Studies program. Applicants should have evidence of excellent teaching experience, active scholarly publication, and a commitment to productive institutional service. Some experience in curricular design is also desirable.
