Open Rank Faculty Positions in Literature, Linguistics, and Translation Studies

Foreign Studies College of Hunan Normal University is hiring up tofive faculty positions at the level of Assistant Professor, AssociateProfessor, and Professor, in the following fields: (1) Literature; (2)Linguistics; (3) Translation Studies. Language, field, and period of specialization are open. Applicantsmust hold a PhD in a relevant field, and are expected to demonstrate a recordof both research and teaching excellence, or potential for excellence,commensurate to rank. Truly outstanding researchers may be eligible forappointment as distinguished professors under national or provincial facultyrecruitment programs (Note: faculty at the fullprofessor level will only be hired if research record demonstrates eligibilityfor a distinguished professorship). All positions will begin in September 2019, and are non-tenuredrenewable appointments. Teaching load is six to eighthours per week each semester, across either two or three courses for anacademic year; competitive compensation packages are negotiable at levelsappropriate to rank. No knowledge of Chinese language or prior experiencein China is required; however, applicants should be able to adjust to localpedagogical norms. Invitation for External Assessor role for UG Translation and Interpreting Modules

The UEA is looking to appoint a new External Assessor for our Undergraduate Translation and Interpreting modules. These are a range of modules that support all of our Language and Communication degrees and are open to all languages but particularly those students studying French, Spanish, and Japanese. The External Assessor does not need to specialise in any of these languages but does need to be an expert in Translation and Interpreting. The External Assessor is expected to comment on the modules they assess in the following areas: o Academic standards of awardso Assessment designo Module design and contento Student achievemento Procedural matters relating to the conduct of assessment The role would be for a 3 year period (with the option to extend for a fourth year) and is paid at the rate of £165 per year. The role is not an External Examiner role and does not involve attending the end of year exam board. It is expected that the role holder will complete all duties and reviews of modules/assessments using Blackboard. The successful candidate must have an affiliation with a UK university. Assistant Teaching Professor of Spanish English Translation and Interpreting at Rutgers

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, New Brunswick Campus, invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track one-year, renewable position as an Assistant Teaching Professor of Spanish < > English Translation and Interpreting, effective Fall 2019. A PhD or equivalent in Spanish Translation Studies or a relevant discipline is required. We seek a dynamic instructor to teach introductory and advanced courses in Spanish translation and interpreting, as well as courses in English on translation theory and methodology to students who are speakers of various languages other than Spanish and English, at the undergraduate and graduate level. Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Translation

Applications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Translation. As the first Department of Translation in Hong Kong, our programme has a long history of excellence in a variety of fields, including but not limited to translation history, translation and technology, digital humanities, translation theory, and practical translation (especially literary). The Department is also home to the Centre for Translation Technology, which has specialized projects undertaken by Centre members. Faculty members are active in securing research grants concerning various aspects of translation history, theory and practice, increasingly with a digital component. Applicants should have (i) a relevant PhD degree; (ii) strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching; and (iii) outstanding accomplishments and research potential. Preference will be given to applicants with a good command of Chinese. The appointee will work under a member of staff as mentee to complete the research project as proposed. He/She will also be expected to teach at the Department’s undergraduate programme and participate in departmental activities. Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year commencing August 2019, renewable to mutual agreement. Professor of Translation and Interpreting studies - University of Graz

The Institute of Translation Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities is seeking to appoint a Professor (f/m) of Translation and Interpreting studies (40 hours per week; permanent employment according to the Austrian Law on Salaried Employment (AngG); expected starting date January 1st 2020 ) The successful candidate will be expected to represent the Institute’s Research Focus “Translation, Migration and Minorities”. She/he conducts theoretical and empirical research on translation in the contexts of ethno-cultural diversity, migration and/or social diversity. Her/his research is innovative, internationally visible, and interdisciplinary and explores translation and/or interpreting as historical and/or topical fields of tensions against the background of ideological, political, social and/or cultural barriers. Her/his research projects constitute significant contributions to the development of this Research Focus. In her/his research-based teaching s/he will cover a wide range of translation and interpreting studies topics and will teach courses on the Institute’s bachelor’s and master’s programmes and teach on the Faculty’s doctoral programme. S/he will supervise bachelor’s and master’s as well as doctoral theses in translation and interpreting studies. S/he will assume administrative responsibilities within the Institute and the Faculty. Assistant/Associate Professor - Chinese University of Hong Kong

The department of translation at the Chinese University of Hong Kong is seeking to recruit a new full-time assistant or associate professor. The post is initially by contract, renewable and potentially leading to substantiation (tenure). Full/Associate/Assistant Professor in Translation Studies

The Department of English of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites applications for the position of Full/Associate/Assistant Professor in Translation Studies. The Department of English is an established and distinguished multinational, scholarly community. Apart from an undergraduate degree in English Studies, the Department of English offers a Minor programme in Translation Studies. At the postgraduate level, the Department offers an MA in Translation Studies, an MA in English Studies, and an MA in Second Language Acquisition (delivered with the Departments of Portuguese and Chinese). There are two PhD areas, in (i) English Literary Studies and (ii) English Linguistics, both of which include PhD research in Translation Studies. In addition, the Department of English is home to the Centre for Studies in Translation, Interpreting and Cognition (http://cstic.umac.mo) and a state-of-the-art Cognitive Laboratory. The Department also contributes courses to a General Education programme. One of the prime aims of the Department is to recruit staff who will be able to teach and research in one or more areas of translation. Full Professor in Translation and/or Interpreting Studies

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a new field of research which explores translation in the context of recent advances in communication and translation technologies. The research area will comprise two lines of inquiry: Firstly, it will examine phenomena and practices that go beyond the narrower concerns of professional practice, challenge traditional conceptions of translation, and address innovative areas such as translation communities, crowd translation, fan translation or multimodal translation; secondly, it will critically assess the use of new technologies in (professional) translation practice and seek to predict the implications of their employment. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and deliver courses on the Institute’s bachelor’s and master’s programmes and teach on the Faculty’s doctoral programme. S/he will supervise bachelor’s and master’s as well as PhD theses and assume administrative responsibilities within the Institute and the Faculty.
