The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures is seeking a well-rounded specialist who focuses on the theories, practice, and teaching of Translation & Interpreting Studies for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Performs teaching, research and student advising duties in Spanish/English translation and interpreting. Shares responsibility for departmental and College committee work and other duties as assigned by the chair. Required qualifications: Ph.D. in Translation and Interpreting Studies in Spanish or in a related discipline, such as Applied Linguistics in Spanish with a focus in translation and interpreting, from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or an equivalent non-U.S. institution by date of appointment. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English. Ability to successfully teach Spanish to English and English to Spanish translation and interpreting courses at all levels of undergraduate instruction. Demonstrated scholarship or research achievement. Responsibilities will include working collaboratively with colleagues, the department, and the College. The successful candidate may also be expected to teach Spanish language courses at all levels of instruction. Teaching, service and publication are required. Teaching duties include a 3/3 course load (six courses per year) of undergraduate courses, but beginning tenure-track appointments receive a significant course reduction while working toward tenure. Candidates are expected to bring enthusiasm and demonstrated commitment to teaching and to develop and maintain an active research and publication agenda. To complement existing excellence in CTS in researching applications of technologies in translation and interpreting, we are seeking to appoint a dynamic research leader with a proven track record in language and translation technologies, including machine learning and AI as applied to translation, and a strong interest in combining human and automated approaches to translation. The post holder will develop and lead a research group in translation technologies, driving research in CTS in this area and making a significant contribution to achieving the strategic goals of CTS’s expanding research programme. She/he will also contribute academic leadership to CTS’s translation programmes and develop updates of the programme portfolio to ensure it embraces emerging industry and research trends. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate world-leading and world-changing research with outputs that are consistently recognised as internationally excellent in the field. She/he will have a significant track record of securing external research funding. The Department of Languages & Intercultural Studies (LINCS) offers specialist Chinese courses on its postgraduate translating and interpreting programmes, as well as the undergraduate programme in International Business Management & Languages. Elective courses in Chinese language are also offered to non-specialists at beginners and post-beginners levels. We are now looking to recruit two full-time members of staff to grow the Chinese team, either on a Teaching & Research contract or on a Teaching & Scholarship contract. The successful candidates will contribute primarily to teaching translation and interpreting courses at various levels, as well as Chinese language courses. The Languages and Translation Studies subject group is seeking to make on appointment for a Teaching Associate in Translation Studies with Spanish for a fixed-term position between 15 January 2020 and 15 June 2020 (5 months). Strong candidates from Translation Studies, especially those with teaching experience in theory modules and a near-native competence in Spanish, are encouraged to apply. You should have a completed a PG Programme in Translation Studies, have experience of teaching in Translation Studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and be able to contribute to the development of the teaching portfolio within Translation Studies. Experience in teaching translation theory is particularly important. The new appointment will also be expected to contribute to the leadership of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Translation Studies. The Department of Translation, Communication and Interpreting at Ghent University organises the Bachelor in Applied Language Studies, three one-year Master degrees (Translation, Interpreting and Multilingual Communication) and a two-year Educational Master degrees. We are looking for a lecturer from 1 February 2020 to strengthen our team for an assignment including academic education and training, academic research and academic services in the field of empirical translation and interpreting studies. You will contribute to the curricula of the Master in Translation and/or the Master in Interpreting. You will supervise bachelor papers in Bachelor of Applied Language Studies and master dissertations in the Master in Translation and/or the Master in Interpreting. You will teach language and communication subjects in our programmes of those languages that belong to your field of expertise (Dutch, French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian or Turkish).
