University of Bath

Placed On: Friday 12 May 2017
Closing Date: Sunday 28 May 2017

The Department of Politics, Languages and International Studies at the University of Bath seeks to recruit a Teaching Fellow who will be responsible for delivering high-quality Masters-level teaching on the Department’s prestigious MA in Interpreting and Translation and MA in Translation with Business Interpreting (Chinese), which launched in September 2016. This is an opportunity to join a highly successful team at a time of expansion and to contribute to the development of the programmes we offer.

The successful candidate will be expected to plan and deliver units in translation and related skills, including proofreading and editing, in cooperation with the existing teaching team, which may include the delivery of training in liaison interpreting for business clients. They will be asked to supervise student dissertations, and will be closely involved in the recruitment of students to the programmes.

The successful candidate will have a professional background in translation, with extensive experience of translating from English into Chinese. They will have native competence in Chinese, but will also have an excellent standard of English. They will have a sound understanding of the workings of the translation industry in the UK and in Chinese-speaking territories, and experience of providing training in translation. They will be familiar with the latest technological developments in the field. Experience of delivering tuition at Masters level is an advantage. However, further training and development will be available to the successful candidate.

This is a part time post, working 21.9 hours per week (0.6 FTE).
