The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) invites applications for Open Rank positions in the field of Translation Studies. The successful candidate will have long-standing experience in the field of Intercultural and Literary Translation, or Machine Translation, Artificial Intelligence and/or Terminology, a dynamic and innovative research agenda, as evidenced through an internationally recognized, strong record of peer-reviewed publications. The candidate will work closely with other programs in the college, in particular the PhD Program in Humanities and Social Sciences, and with national, regional and international partners and stakeholders. The Research Group in Computational Linguistics (RGCL) seeks to become an international leader in this area by proposing the next generation of Translation Technology, which has substantial industry-wide applications. By appointing a Senior Lecturer in the area of translation technology, RGCL will be able to strengthen the work it is already carrying out and produce new innovation. You will be expected to produce high quality research, contribute to attracting external income, seek industrial collaborations, teach at Masters level and supervise PhD students. You will hold a first degree in a relevant discipline, together with a PhD (or equivalent) in a field related to machine translation, translation memories or translation technologies, and will have completed work at postdoctoral research level at a university, research institute or in a related part of the private sector in the UK or abroad. You will be proficient in a range of subject-specific skills and ideally will have extensive experience in site-based research settings. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently to develop new research objectives and proposals including contributing to the securing of external funding and collaborative projects. The Department of Language and Linguistics (DLL) has 37 full-time academic members of staff and provides a broad spectrum of expertise in the study of language and in the practical teaching of modern foreign languages. The School of Language, Literature, Music & Visual Culture seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Interpreting and Language Acquisition, with a specialism in Mandarin Chinese, from 1 July 2020. The successful candidate will undertake research and teaching in an area of Interpreting or Language Acquisition relevant to the requirements of the School. The successful candidate should be able to teach Interpreting into Mandarin. She or he will teach on the undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes offered by the departments of Language and Linguistics and Translation and Interpreting Studies, including introductory courses and research-informed specialist options; will undertake supervision of postgraduate research students; will contribute to the work of the School’s research centres; and will pursue external funding opportunities. VACANCY FOR ASSISTANT PROFESSOR AT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING STUDIES BOĞAZIÇI UNIVERSITY, ISTANBUL, TURKEY The Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position, to be filled by a Turkish citizen or foreign national with native or near-native English proficiency. Knowledge of Turkish is advantageous but not essential for foreign applicants. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Translation Studies or a related field, as well as research interests and an international-level publication record in one or more fields of study that would enrich the Department’s research and teaching profile. Responsibilities would involve teaching three courses per semester, including obligatory departmental courses and electives in the candidate’s specialty; thesis and project supervision at undergraduate and graduate levels; administrative duties. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to integrate active scholarship with excellent teaching. For Turkish candidates, the position is tenure-track with 3-year contracts. For foreign candidates, the position is subject to a yearly renewable contract and includes state health insurance. The university provides on-campus housing depending on availability.
