Dr. Margherita Dore graduated summa cum laude in English and Latin-American Studies at the University of Sassari in 2001. During her undergraduate studies, she attended an academic year at the University of Manchester (UK). After graduating she obtained a Master in Science in Translation Studies and Intercultural Communication at the Manchester University Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST, now Manchester University) with a dissertation on the audiovisual translation of humour, which was supervised by Peter Fawcett (2002). During the academic year 2002/2003 she worked as Language Assistant in Italian at the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas Barcelona-Drassanes, in Spain (COMENIUS programme). She later started working as Lector in Italian at Lancaster University and simultaneously enrolled as part-time PhD student in Linguistics. In 2008 she obtained her doctoral degree with a thesis that further analysed the issues of humour translation in the audiovisual setting, which was supervised by the Prof. Elena Semino. In 2009-2010 she was Visiting Scholar at the University of Athens where she carried out a postdoctoral project that analysed and compared Italian dubbing and Greek subtitling under the supervision of Prof. Eleni Antonopoulou. Since December 2010, she is Honorary Fellow at the Faculty of Foreign Languages at the University of Sassari. In 2011/2012 she taught a course in Italian at the Faculty of Foreign Languages at the University of Cagliari. From November 2010 to December 2012, she worked as interpreter, translator and consultant on EU projects and calls at the Europe Direct Information Centre of the Municipality of Nuoro. Since march 2013, she has been appointed part-time Lecturer in Advanced English and she has been recently appointed Referent for the Ab Initio and Intermediate English Course at the Department of Political Science at the University of Sassari. Moreover, in 2013-2014 she was appointed as Lecturer in Lingusitics and taught an "Introduction to Linguistics" Course to First Year Students at the Department of European, American and Intercural Studies of the University of Rome "La Sapienza". She also taught an EAP English Course at the Department of Industrial Biotechnology at the University of Sassari. For the academic year 2014-2015, she has been appointed as Lecturer in Translation Studies for Third Year Students at the Department of European, American and Intercural Studies and as Lecturer in Linguistics for First Year Students at the Department of Asian Studies of the University of Rome "La Sapienza". She also teaches language course at the Faculty of Architercure of the same University and at the Unversity of Rome "Tor Vergata". Since 2003 she has been working as freelance interpreter and translator for many Italian and international bodies and agencies. She is fluent in English, Spanish and Modern Greek.

After the success of the 1st edition, The II International Conference on Translation, Ideology and Gender aims to continue with the fruitful discussions that emerged in the first encounter. The conference invites proposals addressing issues related to the representation of gender in translated discourses and the ideological implications that the shifts of meaning may bear on female image construction. In addition, in line with its subtitle “In Sickness and in Health”, particular attention will be paid to research promoting debate around the representation of gender in the health sciences. The conference stems from the Ministry funded research project TRACEgen (TRADUCCIÓN Y CENSURA EN LA REPRESENTACIÓN DEL GENERO: FFI2012-39012-C04-04).
