Teaching Fellow in Translation (English-Chinese, Part-Time)

This is an opportunity to join a highly successful team at a time of expansion and to contribute to the development of the programmes we offer. The successful candidate will be expected to plan and deliver units in translation and related skills, including proofreading and editing, in cooperation with the existing teaching team, which may include the delivery of training in liaison interpreting for business clients. They will be asked to supervise student dissertations, and will be closely involved in the recruitment of students to the programmes. The successful candidate will have a professional background in translation, with extensive experience of translating from English into Chinese. They will have native competence in Chinese, but will also have an excellent standard of English. They will have a sound understanding of the workings of the translation industry in the UK and in Chinese-speaking territories, and experience of providing training in translation. They will be familiar with the latest technological developments in the field. Experience of delivering tuition at Masters level is an advantage. Teaching Fellow in Translation Studies

The School of Modern Languages wishes to appoint a fixed-term Teaching Fellow in Translation Studies to replace Dr Francis Jones during his AHRC-funded project on poetry and translation. This is a 0.8FTE post for a duration of 10 months (1 September 2017 to 30 June 2018). The successful candidate will be expected to offer MA-level teaching in the areas of translation studies, literary translation, translation and/or interpreting as a profession, and research methods. Translator / Minute-Writer with CERN

CERN is the world's largest particle physics research facility and its current scientific programme aims at piercing the secrets of the creation of the Universe. You can be a part of all this by joining the Translation, Minutes and Council Support group in the Director-General's unit, where you will translate from French to English a wide variety of documents, ranging from public outreach material and non-specialist articles for in-house publications and the CERN website to technical specifications, legal contracts, safety procedures and staff rules and regulations. Your English drafting skills will also come to the fore when you write the minutes for meetings of CERN's governing bodies, where the Member States discuss key policy issues. You will also contribute actively to the standardisation of English across the Organization, as well as to the development of the TM group's computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools. You will receive support and guidance from other, more senior translators in performing all these tasks. As a translator/minute-writer you will: Translate a wide range of administrative, technical and scientific documents into English, mainly from French. Write minutes and summary records, in English, for the meetings of CERN's governing bodies and associated working groups. Edit texts drafted in English by native and non-native writers. Contribute to standardising the English used across the Organization. Participate in the development of CERN's computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools. Requirements: Master's degree in the field of translation, or equivalent. The experience required for this post is: A perfect mastery of English as the target language, excellent drafting skills and an in-depth knowledge of French as the main source language are essential for this position. (Senior) Lectureship/Associate professor in Translation English-Dutch-English

Key responsibilities Teaching and developing courses in translation English-Dutch-English (theoretical and applied) and translation studies, at undergraduate and graduate levels, in lecture and seminar formats; Willingness to do research in the areas specified above, preferably in relation to the following sub-specialisations: Literary Translation, Legal Translation, Multimodal Translation & Subtitling. Lecturer in Translation and Interpreting - University of Essex

The department is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Translation and Interpreting from 1st September 2017 to 31 August 2018. The appointed candidate will be responsible for delivering a theory module on the Principles of Translation and Interpreting and also contribute to the teaching of Technologies of Translation. The core teaching will be at the postgraduate level to a mixed group of students pursing MA studies in TI in different modern language strands. It is crucial that the successful applicant is able to develop and deliver the core theoretical module that brings together the underlying principles that are then pursued in individual language strands. The appointed candidate will also contribute to the supervision of MA dissertations and form a part of the joint delivery of TI programmes. Assistant / Associate / Full Professor of Portuguese in Translation Studies

The Department of Portuguese is an established and lively scholarly community that includes speakers of European, Brazilian and other varieties of Portuguese. The department offers an undergraduate degree in Portuguese Studies concentrating on Portuguese as a Foreign Language with selected courses in interpretation and translation, foreign language pedagogy, literary studies and history. At the undergraduate level the Department also teaches Portuguese language within the Faculty of Law and offers elective courses in Portuguese as a foreign language to students from all faculties of the University. At the postgraduate level the Department offers three MA programmes (an MA in Portuguese Language and Culture, an MA in Translation Studies(Portuguese-Chinese) and MA in Second Language Acquisition) and two PhD areas in (i) Applied Linguistics (Portuguese) and (ii) Literary and Intercultural Studies (Portuguese). Applicants must hold a PhD in Translation Studies or in a related area OF PORTUGUESE STUDIES. Applicants should have an excellent record of internationally recognized research and publication and a demonstrated potential for outstanding research. Applicants should also have native or near-native fluency in Portuguese along with experience teaching Portuguese as a second/foreign language. Vacancy - Assistant Professor in Translation/Interpreting - Boğaziçi University

The Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies at Boğaziçi University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position to be filled by a foreign national with native-level English proficiency. Responsibilities include teaching three to four courses per semester covering the candidate’s specialty as well as departmental courses on academic writing, thesis supervision at the undergraduate and graduate levels, administrative duties, and organizational support for departmental activities. A Ph.D. in Translation Studies or a related field is required and candidates should demonstrate the ability to integrate active scholarship with excellent teaching.
