The Department of Language and Linguistics (DLL) has 37 full-time academic members of staff and provides a broad spectrum of expertise in the study of language and in the practical teaching of modern foreign languages. Its core ambition is to offer students a transformative educational experience in these areas underpinned by high quality research. The majority of research conducted in the department is rated 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent', placing us 8th among departments in the UK for research quality (REF 2014). Our linguistics expertise covers Theoretical and Descriptive Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Psycholinguistics, TESOL and Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling. The School of Language, Literature, Music & Visual Culture seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Interpreting and Language Acquisition, with a specialism in Mandarin Chinese, from 1 July 2020. The successful candidate will undertake research and teaching in an area of Interpreting or Language Acquisition relevant to the requirements of the School. The successful candidate should be able to teach Interpreting into Mandarin. She or he will teach on the undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes offered by the departments of Language and Linguistics and Translation and Interpreting Studies, including introductory courses and research-informed specialist options; will undertake supervision of postgraduate research students; will contribute to the work of the School’s research centres; and will pursue external funding opportunities. VACANCY FOR ASSISTANT PROFESSOR AT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING STUDIES BOĞAZIÇI UNIVERSITY, ISTANBUL, TURKEY The Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position, to be filled by a Turkish citizen or foreign national with native or near-native English proficiency. Knowledge of Turkish is advantageous but not essential for foreign applicants. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Translation Studies or a related field, as well as research interests and an international-level publication record in one or more fields of study that would enrich the Department’s research and teaching profile. Responsibilities would involve teaching three courses per semester, including obligatory departmental courses and electives in the candidate’s specialty; thesis and project supervision at undergraduate and graduate levels; administrative duties. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to integrate active scholarship with excellent teaching. For Turkish candidates, the position is tenure-track with 3-year contracts. For foreign candidates, the position is subject to a yearly renewable contract and includes state health insurance. The university provides on-campus housing depending on availability. The appointment is scheduled to begin in the Fall of 2020. The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures is seeking a well-rounded specialist who focuses on the theories, practice, and teaching of Translation & Interpreting Studies for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Performs teaching, research and student advising duties in Spanish/English translation and interpreting. Shares responsibility for departmental and College committee work and other duties as assigned by the chair. Required qualifications: Ph.D. in Translation and Interpreting Studies in Spanish or in a related discipline, such as Applied Linguistics in Spanish with a focus in translation and interpreting, from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or an equivalent non-U.S. institution by date of appointment. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English. Ability to successfully teach Spanish to English and English to Spanish translation and interpreting courses at all levels of undergraduate instruction. Demonstrated scholarship or research achievement. Responsibilities will include working collaboratively with colleagues, the department, and the College. The successful candidate may also be expected to teach Spanish language courses at all levels of instruction. Teaching, service and publication are required. Teaching duties include a 3/3 course load (six courses per year) of undergraduate courses, but beginning tenure-track appointments receive a significant course reduction while working toward tenure. The Department of Chinese Studies, National University of Singapore, is one of the leading institutions in the world in the fields of Chinese Studies and Chinese Language and a major centre in Southeast Asia. We invite applications for the post of Tenure Track/Educator Track (Open Rank) in Translation/Interpretation.
