The Department of English of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites applications for the position of Full/Associate/Assistant Professor in Translation Studies. The Department of English is an established and distinguished multinational, scholarly community. Apart from an undergraduate degree in English Studies, the Department of English offers a Minor programme in Translation Studies. At the postgraduate level, the Department offers an MA in Translation Studies, an MA in English Studies, and an MA in Second Language Acquisition (delivered with the Departments of Portuguese and Chinese). The successful candidate will be expected to develop a new field of research which explores translation in the context of recent advances in communication and translation technologies. The research area will comprise two lines of inquiry: Firstly, it will examine phenomena and practices that go beyond the narrower concerns of professional practice, challenge traditional conceptions of translation, and address innovative areas such as translation communities, crowd translation, fan translation or multimodal translation; secondly, it will critically assess the use of new technologies in (professional) translation practice and seek to predict the implications of their employment.
