Chinese-English Translation Studies Portal (Hong Kong Baptist University)

The Centre for Translation is pleased to announce the launch of a Translation Studies Portal (www.translationstudiesportal.org/zh) with a sharp focus on the Chinese World. You are cordially invited to register as a member of the site and be a part of the community who is interested in the Chinese field across the world!

The Translation Studies Portal seeks to facilitate and promote Chinese-English research on translation and Chinese-English translator/interpreter training. With the continual development of China in an age of globalization, translation will play an increasingly important role in the flow of knowledge and movement of ideas between the Chinese community and other communities. The Centre for Translation of Hong Kong Baptist University is committed to playing a leading role in capacity-building for the community of key agents in knowledge transfer.

Registered members can share their research findings or post any news/information relating to the field on the site. The portal is in English but posts can be made in Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese or English.

This portal runs parallel to its sister site (“Translation Studies Portal for Arab World, Iran & Turkey”, available at the common landing page at www.translationstudiesportal.org) which was funded by the British Academy, initiated by Professor Mona Baker and focuses on capacity building for speakers of Arabic, Persian and Turkish. The two portals share the same structure and information is systematically grouped into five main categories, namely:

‧        News – including general news, information on awards and competitions, conferences, call for Papers, fellowships and scholarships, and job announcements

‧        Publications – including books, journal articles, book reviews and special issues from well known and established publishers

‧        Media Library – including audio recordings and videos of lectures and interviews

‧        Links – including a list of useful links on the internet

‧        Resources – including any other relevant information

Sources of information include official organizations, academic institutions, news agencies, publishers, and the translation community. The posts will be verified by site managers before release to ensure quality and reliability of information.
