The Monterey Institute of International Studies, a graduate school of Middlebury College, located in Monterey, California is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor of Spanish to English Translation. The position is a regular, full-time position, teaching approximately 10 contact hours per week in an MA Translation, Interpretation, and Localization Management program. The position begins Fall 2013. This position focuses on training students to translate into English and the candidate would be expected to teach introduction, intermediate and advanced classes to students who may have English as either an A or B language. Demonstrated professional experience as a Spanish-English translator is required, as is experience working with varied text types and domains typical of authentic professional translation assignments. The ideal candidate should be extremely comfortable with technology and able to incorporate CAT tools and other technologies into their classroom training. In a privileged location on the U.S.-Mexico border, next to the Gulf of Mexico, and within a bicultural, bilingual campus community, UTB-TSC has been offering Translation and Interpreting courses for more than three decades. UTB-TSC currently offers an Associate of Arts program in Spanish Translation, a Bachelor of Arts Major in Spanish Translation and Interpreting, a Minor in French Language and Translation, and an undergraduate Certificate in Medical Interpreting. At the graduate level, UTB offers a Certificate in Translation Studies as well as a full-fledged Master of Arts program in Spanish Translation and Interpreting. Each block involves up to four two-hour practical translation classes per week, and lasts for five weeks. In each case, the teaching would be suitable for one single visiting lecturer or could alternatively be shared between more people to allow for different visiting lecturers' specialisations. In addition, visiting lecturers will be expected to supervise and mark longer translation projects (for an extra fee), and to set and mark an examination. The basic rate of pay is £115.56 per two-hour session. The appointments will be for one year in the first instance.
