IATIS expresses its strong support and solidarity with our Translation and Interpreting colleagues at the University of Birmingham.
Modern languages, translation, and intercultural studies are essential to education, research, and public life. They enable the exchange of knowledge across linguistic and cultural boundaries, support international collaboration, and foster the multilingual and intercultural expertise that our societies urgently need.
At a time when global challenges require dialogue, inclusion, and cross-cultural understanding, universities should be strengthening—not diminishing—their commitment to language education.
We urge colleagues and supporters to sign and share the petition:https://www.change.org/p/stop-redundancies-at-the-university-of-birmingham
