Abstracts are invited for the Translation and International Theatre panel at the International Association for Translation and Intercultural Studies 2018 conference. This panel examines the various ways in which international productions and translation for the theatre – whether translating playscripts, surtitling theatre, or translating elements such as programmes, interpreting for interviews, or adapting other sources for the stage – contribute to perceptions of interculturality. What do the different types of interaction between translation and various forms of theatre and performance reveal about cultural mobility in mono- or multilingual cultures, where diglossia can be part of the picture, and for international audiences? What roles can international theatre play in crossing borders and in challenging obstacles to cultural and other types of mobility?
