Full Professor in Translation and/or Interpreting Studies

The Department of Translation Studies at the University of Graz, Austria, invites applications for a position as full professor in Translation and/or Interpreting Studies. The anticipated starting date is 02 March 2019.

This is a full-time tenured position. The responsibilities of the successful candidate will include research, research management, teaching and administrative duties.

Application deadline is 26 September 2018.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a new field of research which explores translation in the context of recent advances in communication and translation technologies. The research area will comprise two lines of inquiry: Firstly, it will examine phenomena and practices that go beyond the narrower concerns of professional practice, challenge traditional conceptions of translation, and address innovative areas such as translation communities, crowd translation, fan translation or multimodal translation; secondly, it will critically assess the use of new technologies in (professional) translation practice and seek to predict the implications of their employment. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and deliver courses on the Institute’s bachelor’s and master’s programmes and teach on the Faculty’s doctoral programme. S/he will supervise bachelor’s and master’s as well as PhD theses and assume administrative responsibilities within the Institute and the Faculty.

Requirements for employment

Completion of an appropriate university degree at a university in Austria or abroad

Habilitation or equivalent qualification in Translation and/or Interpreting Studies

Excellent scientific qualification in research and teaching for the relevant subject (relative to academic age)

Acquired international research and teaching experience after completion of the Doctorate/PhD

Competence in subject-specific project acquisition

Management and leadership experience

Gender mainstreaming competence

 

The candidate is expected to demonstrate his/her educational and didactic skills. S/he conducts international research addressing interdisciplinary issues. The candidate's research record demonstrates his/her ability to develop and advance the new area of research. The successful candidate will also be expected to cooperate with the two existing fields of research at the Institute. The successful candidate will possess knowledge of at least two of the languages taught at the Institute. S/he will have an advanced level of proficiency in German in order to be able to complete administrative tasks and academic duties and also be able to deliver courses in German and English. S/he will possess cooperative leadership and communication skills and have experience in generating external funding and planning and managing research projects.
