Call for Proposals: Volume on Teaching Translationed. Lawrence VenutiModern Language Association, New York City   Essay proposals are invited for a volume in the MLA's Options for Teaching series entitled Teaching Translation, to be edited by Lawrence Venuti. The volume is designed to offer faculty members models for developing programs as well as strategies for teaching translation practice and research. This event was organised by the IATIS Training Committee. It took place on 30 January 2013 and was hosted by the University of Salford. The workshop attracted over 8o registrations and was led by Myriam Salama-Carr and Cristina Mendes da Costa (Salford), with Rebecca Tipton (Manchester) and Svetlana Carsten (Leeds) as main speakers. Feedback was very positive and the initiative commended by the participants. We are grateful to all IATIS colleagues who had an input into the content and organisation of the online event. The inaugural Singapore International Translation Symposium 2013, held on 1-2 February 2013, was the first major public translation-related event to be held in Singapore. The main objective of this symposium is to raise awareness about the role of translation in society, take stock of the current state of the translation industry and market, and exchange experiences and best practices with translators and translation organisations in other parts of the world.
