The University of Bristol seeks to appoint a Language Director in Translation to work in the School of Modern Languages from 1 August 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The principal responsibilities of this post are for the management, delivery and continuing expansion of the School of Modern Languages' MA in Translation. This is a highly successful, professionally oriented postgraduate qualification delivered by distance learning, to which you will contribute teaching in Translation Theory, Translation Technology and/or the Translation Industry.
You may also contribute MA and/or undergraduate teaching in a specific language, and will play a key role in the development and delivery of School-wide policy both for undergraduate teaching of translation and, as appropriate, for the enhancement of postgraduate provision in translation and translation studies.
You are likely to have substantial experience of leadership and management of language programmes in the HE Sector, with specific experience in supporting distance learning. You have native or near native competence and considerable teaching experience in a relevant language. Extensive familiarity with recent developments in translation theory and translation technologies is essential; first-hand experience of the translation industry and/or publication in the field may be an advantage.
It is expected that interviews will be held in the week commencing 21 May 2012.
