IATIS training agenda
IATIS aims to provide a forum for debate and to
stimulate scholarly interaction and the exchange of knowledge. A very large percentage of scholars involved in IATIS are also involved in training translators and interpreters. Training issues are therefore a prime concern of IATIS.
The IATIS Committee for Translator and Interpreter Training is working on an on-line thematic bibliographical database of translation pedagogy publications, accessible for IATIS members via the IATIS website. This will serve to raise awareness of research already conducted in translator and interpreter training. It will be possible for publication details of relevant books, articles, etc. to be added to the database by members of the committee. The database may also include a set of links to relevant online publications that are available free of charge.
The IATIS Committee for Translator and Interpreter Training plans to create an e-zine bulletin devoted to translator and interpreter training to be published regularly. The e-zine will be distributed by e-mail free of charge on an opt-in basis and will be archived on the IATIS website and accessible for IATIS members. The character of the bulletin will be that of a magazine rather than an academic journal. The opt-in e-mail list by which this e-zine will be distributed may also be used for general communication purposes by those interested in translation pedagogy.
The IATIS Committee for Translator and Interpreter Training aims to organize workshops on translator and interpreter training in different parts of the world. Emphasis will be placed on translation pedagogy in the global context (e.g. translator training taking place in both multilingual and unilingual environments) with a view to breaking away from parochial or Euro-centric impulses which have sometimes characterised discourse in the field.
