Expertise required: The Department of Arabic Studies invites applications for faculty positions in English/Arabic Translation. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Translation Studies or a closely related field, a high standard of written and spoken English and have the ability to teach translation from Arabic into English. The successful candidate will be expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses. Preference will be given to candidates in the area of corpora studies, machine translation, terminology, and language engineering with a focus on Arabic and to candidates who can contribute to the Arabic Studies program.

Expertise required: The School of Languages, Linguistics and Cultures is offering 6 Graduate Teaching Fellowships and 7 PhD fee bursaries for PhD students starting in September 2008.

Applicants wishing to do PhDs in translation, interpreting or intercultural studies are eligible to apply for the fee bursaries and for Graduate Teaching Fellowships in German, Arabic, Spanish, Film Studies or Greek (0.5). Please note that applicants for the Graduate Teaching Fellowships MUST have relevant teaching experience.

Expertise required: The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking a dynamic leader to
establish a premier program in translation studies. The envisioned program is
a cooperative venture involving units from many disciplines across the campus.
It will be wide-ranging, including literary, commercial, scientific translation
(among others) as well as computational linguistics, and machine, and
machine-assisted translation. The successful candidate will have a
distinguished record in translation or translation studies and in translation
education, experience in academic program administration, and a strong record
of success in obtaining external funding. Masters Degree required, PhD
preferred.

Expertise required: The successful candidates will contribute to the third-party funded project TransComp, a 3-year longitudinal study into the development of translation competence (cf. http://www.susannegoepferich.de/transcomp.html). They will conduct experiments employing thinking-aloud, key logging, and screen recording with both student subjects and professional translators, transcribe and proof-read translation protocols, and work on project-specific research questions which can be extended into PhD theses.
