Expertise required: The School of Modern Languages seeks an experienced translator with HE experience to coordinate its expanded Diploma/Masters programme in Translation. You will have experience of e-learning systems and deliver this programme in a virtual learning environment. You will offer units in the theory and practice of translation, provide students with practical experience and training in translation of a variety of text types in one or more languages, and coordinate and supervise the work of tutors responsible for translation units in other languages. This half-time post is offered on a fixed term contract until 31 December 2009 in the first instance, with the possibility of extension. You should be able to start work on 1 September 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter.

He or she will have a research record in the field, professional experience of translation, the experience and ability to conduct pioneering research in translation theory and practice and substantial teaching experience, ideally at postgraduate level. The bursary covers registration fees at the UK/EU rate and a stipend of £8,000 per annum. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the EU-funded eCoLoMedia project, which is creating training materials for multimedia translation. Initial funding is for a two-year period (leading to a research Masters), but an appointee who progresses well will be considered for three-year funding leading to a PhD.
