Programme Director, PG Diploma/MA in Translation for the Professions
Professional Field: Academic
Expertise required: Main responsibilities and duties
To take responsibility for the development of the pioneering MA in Translation for the Professions, the day-to-day management of its first pathway, the PG Diploma/MA in Legal Translation, as well as undertake research and lead on the academic development of the modules of this and other new pathways including audiovisual translation, financial translation and forensic translation


Teaching
To teach translation on two or more modules per semester

Qualifications sought:
Qualifications
1. A higher degree and preferably a PhD in Translation or a higher degree in Modern Languages with a translation qualification



Experience
2. A research track record in a related field
3. Programme management experience in a Higher Education environment
4. Professional experience in translation
5. Teaching and assessment experience
6. Experience in e-learning and distance methods of delivery, or the willingness and ability to learn



Abilities
7. To show vision and academic leadership
8. To work independently and flexibly
9. To undertake subject-related research
10. To run a complex programme with appropriate managerial skills
11. To work in a multicultural and multilingual environment
12. To work consistently to tight deadlines



Skills
13. A high level of interpersonal skills
14. Appropriate negotiation skills
15. A detailed understanding of research techniques
16. Awareness of current developments in the teaching of adults
17. Familiarity with standard Microsoft IT packages and the Internet
18. Knowledge of WebCT and virtual learning environments or the willingness and ability to learn



Teaching

20. to sit on the Languages Advisory Panel

Salary & Conditions


The salient features of Conditions for Academic staff are as follows:

The salary will be in the range of £46,759 to £52,628. This is on Grade 8 of the salary scales for Academic staff.
Annual Leave is 30 days, plus 8 statutory and 4 additional days during the Christmas holiday period.
You will have the option to join the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS). Employees electing to join make a 6.35% contribution from their annual salary.
All offers of appointment are subject to the University receiving satisfactory references and medical clearance.
All posts at City University are subject to reasonable adjustment under the Disability Discrimination Act (1995).
All appointments at City University are subject to a probationary period
