Full-time Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Translation Studies (English and Chinese)
Professional Field: Academic
Expertise required: • Native/near native command of both English and Mandarin (Cantonese would be a plus).
• Professional experience as translator and/or interpreter.
• Teaching and supervision experience at university level.
• Proven track record in translation or interpreting research, demonstrated through international conference participation and publications.
• Experience with CAT tools.

Qualifications sought:
• PhD in Translation or Interpreting Studies, Applied Linguistics, or a closely-related field.
• Ability to work in multicultural contexts.

Employer profile: The University of Auckland's Centre for Translation Studies and Interpreting is New Zealand’s most prominent institution for the training of translators and interpreters and for research in Translation and Interpreting Studies. We are inviting applications for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position in Translation and Interpreting (English-Chinese, Chinese-English) to help us with the growing demand for teaching and supervision and to contribute to and strengthen the Centre’s international research profile.
We are seeking applicants with native and near-native command of both English and Chinese (Mandarin) who have previous professional experiences as translators and/or interpreters and have university-level teaching experience in translation and/or interpreting. The successful applicant will also have demonstrated a strong research interest in contemporary areas of Translation and Interpreting Studies and will be expected to make a substantial contribution to the research culture of the Centre and Faculty.

Job description/salary:
Purpose Statement: To enhance the quality of teaching, learning, and research in translation and interpreting for the language combinations English to Chinese and Chinese to English.

Responsible To: Head of Department.

Key Accountability Areas:

TEACHING / SUPERVISION
• Teach postgraduate courses in translation and interpreting theory, and translation and interpreting practice (Chinese-English, English-Chinese).
• Initiate and develop new contents and courses in these areas.
• Assist in the teaching, coordination and administration of other translation courses.
• Communicate professional skills by example.
• Support the student recruitment processes through the promotion of the Centre’s programmes to prospective students.

RESEARCH
• Sustain and develop a strong research agenda in translation and/or interpreting studies.
• Disseminate knowledge through publications. • Participate in national and international conferences.
• Initiate and support international research co-operation.

ADMINISTRATION, COMMUNITY AND UNIVERSITY SERVICE
• Act as postgraduate adviser.
• Develop strong and relevant links to the professional communities in Auckland and abroad.
• Serve on University, Faculty and School committees as required.
• Collaborate and communicate so as to build a working environment which encourages teamwork and collegial co-operation.
