Applications are invited for the above position, which will be tenable from mid-August 2009 or by mutual agreement thereafter.
The Translation Programme sets out to provide an education in bilingual studies which can produce graduates with competence in Chinese and English as well as a capacity to think for themselves. One of its central features is the equal emphasis on translation as a profession and as an academic discipline. Another feature is the importance attached to the socio-cultural environment of the Chinese and English languages. The appointee will be required to teach courses in one or more of the following areas: translation (including legal or/and business translation), interpreting (English and Cantonese or/and Putonghua), linguistics, translation and culture. Excellent command of Chinese and English is a must, and experience of teaching translation (both theory and practice), interpreting, or comparative literature/linguistics will be an advantage. Conditions of Appointment:
The monthly salary ranges are as follows: Associate Professor – around HK$61,600 to HK$81,200; Assistant Professor – around HK$45,300 to HK$71,400. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, and, if applicable, housing benefits and passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.
