The biennial national conferences organised by AUSIT, the Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators, have been attracting translators and interpreters, linguists and language service industry players from across Australia and overseas since 1999. This year's conference promises to be even more exciting and comprehensive than its predecessors. Just metres from the pristine beaches of the Indian Ocean in the vibrant port city of Fremantle, Western Australia, knowledge about research and practice in translating and interpreting will be shared and enhanced thanks to the enormous potential of synergy.
Well respected speakers, industry experts, academics and language professionals will gather at the University of Notre Dame in Fremantle to generate new ideas, cross disciplinary boundaries, discuss future directions and the changing market for translation and interpreting services in Australia and globally. Event theme(s): Eco-translatological studies can be dated back to the beginning of the 21st century. A paper, which was entitled “An Initial Exploration into an Approach to Translation as Adaptation and Selection” and first presented at the 3rd FIT Asian Translators Forum in 2001, marked the debut of such an ecological approach. This was followed by a series of publications, including the article “Translation as Adaptation and Selection” in Perspectives: Studies in Translatology in 2003 and the paper “Eco-translatology: A Primer” in Chinese Translators Journal in 2008. It can be said that Eco-translatology has been steadily moving forward in the first 10 years of the 21st century. This symposium hopes to bring together the scholars following the ecological approach to discuss and envisage its further developments in the coming decade. Topics include: (1) Theorization of Eco-translatology; (2) Applied researches and empirical studies in Eco-translatology; (3) Comparative studies b/w Eco-translatology and other approaches in TS; (4) Eco-translatology studies in the context of globalization; (5) Applications and developments of the Approach to Translation as Adaptation and Selection; (6) Guiding principles for degree theses /dissertations with Eco-translatology as the theoretical framework; (7) Towards the development of Eco-translatology school, and (8) Reflections and future scenarios of Eco-translatology.

Event theme(s): A more systematic and interdisciplinary approach bringing together academics from different disciplines with various research backgrounds and methodologies, such as translation studies, media studies, psychology, usability, engineering and computing, human rights, is required to promote further advances in these areas of study. The I International Conference on Translation and Accessibility in Video Games and Virtual Worlds aims to be an interdisciplinary meeting point for all those interested in the fields of game localisation and accessibility, as well as accessibility and the role of translation in virtual worlds.
